Designing Bulb Garden

Garden bulbs are best option for providing the yard proper nourishment and important nutrients. The plants that are called bulbs are of four type’s namely true bulbs, corms, tubers/tuberous roots and rhizomes. These bulbs make the environment bright and supplies feeling of peace and joy. There are huge varieties of bulbs which are used in garden.

Plant the bulb according to their height
While planting the bulbs their height is an important factor. Thus to give a diminish look to your garden plant the bulbs whose height is less in front of bed and plant the higher heighted bulb in the back side of the growing bed area. Small in front of border bulbs include garden snowdrop, dwarf iris. ‘Rubra Maxima’ and giant ornamental allium are the bulbs of 24 inches height and are planted at back of border bulbs.

According to time
Crocus, aconite, anemones, hyacinth and early-blooming narcissus are tiny bulbs that can be planted under deciduous trees as they blow out the garden before shade occurs in the garden.

Bulbs needs water
Bulbs have a self-contained, highly developed food-storage mechanism that has been adapted by bulb to life underground. Bulbs are not dependent on other sources for their growth and are able to provide proper nourishment for themselves in adverse condition of the garden soil. Even when problems like, enduring drought, frost or searing heat occurs bulbs could spring back to life. They continue to their species when conditions improve again.

Kinds of bulbs

  • Spring flowering bulbs includes Tulips, Daffodils, Crocuses, Hyacinths and Alliums. All the spring flowering bulbs need to be planted 3-4 weeks before the frost is in the ground. They need the cold season to start their biological process. Hence in general spring flowering bulbs will grow in climate.
  • Summer flowering bulbs comprises of Dahlias, Begonias, Lilies, Gladiolas and Callas. Summer flowering bulbs are planted in late spring season.. Summer flowering bulbs will bloom in throughout the year but most of them are not winter hardy. Hence it is advisable to store most summer flowering bulbs in cold climates for coming season.
  • Autumn flowering bulbs includes Autumn Crocuses and Colchicums. Autumn flowering bulbs are planted in summer season. These plants are basically used to add colors to the garden.

Some bulbs comprises of important nutrients to nourish the plant, blossom and leaves throughout the flowering period in the garden soil. They make the look of garden more green and colorful.
